Tulsa Car Accident Attorneys

Fighting for Car Accident Victims

A car crash can instantly turn your life upside down. You’re now dealing with medical bills, lost income from missed work, and the physical pain of your injuries, among other serious consequences. Insurance companies may contact you to try to settle your claim, almost certainly for less than what you deserve. You shouldn’t agree to any settlement before getting legal advice. If the accident wasn’t your fault, you may be able to pursue a personal injury claim and get far more than what the insurance company is offering.

At JJ Law, our personal injury attorneys have over 30 years of combined experience and have handled over 1,000 cases. We have also secured over $70 million for our clients. When you work with our team, we want you to feel informed, empowered, and valued from start to finish. We can explain your legal options, answer your questions, and provide the results-driven representation you need to get just compensation. Our attorneys prepare every case for trial and are not afraid to go to court if that’s what it takes to obtain the best possible outcome. You owe our firm no legal fees unless we help you recover damages.

How Long Do I Have to File a Car Accident Lawsuit in Oklahoma?

In Oklahoma, the deadline for filing a personal injury lawsuit is typically two years from the date of the accident. The law refers to this time limit as the statute of limitations. If someone you love suffered fatal injuries, the statute of limitations for filing a wrongful death claim is two years from the date they passed away. Waiting too long to take legal action can result in the court dismissing your case, meaning you lose your legal right to seek compensation entirely, regardless of how strong your evidence is.

Two years may seem like plenty of time, but it is in your best interest to get legal advice as soon as possible after a car crash. Key evidence, such as skid marks, vehicle damage, and eyewitness memories, tends to fade or disappear quickly, and surveillance camera footage may be recorded over within hours or days. Our attorneys can act fast to conduct an independent investigation, preserve all essential evidence, and accurately calculate the full value of your potential damages, including future medical costs and lost earnings.

How Do I Know If I Have a Car Accident Claim?

All drivers owe a duty of care to everyone else on the road. That means every driver is legally obligated to follow traffic laws and operate their vehicles responsibly. When their negligent failure to do so causes an accident, they become liable for the harm they cause.

You may have a personal injury claim if you suffered harm in a crash because of any of the following common forms of driver negligence:

  • Distracted driving. Drivers must focus their full attention on the road. Texting, talking on a cell phone, eating, or tending to passengers distracts a driver, delaying their reaction time and increasing the risk of an accident. Put simply, when a driver's attention is diverted, they are driving negligently.
  • Driving under the influence (DUI). Operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol, illegal drugs, or certain prescription medications severely compromises a driver's judgment, coordination, and reaction time, making collisions significantly more likely.
  • Speeding. Exceeding the posted speed limit or driving too fast for the current conditions (such as rain, snow, or heavy traffic) reduces the time a driver has to react to hazards, making accidents more likely and more severe. Excessive speeding shows a reckless disregard for others’ safety.
  • Fatigued driving. Drivers who operate a vehicle while drowsy or sleep-deprived suffer from impaired concentration and slowed reflexes, similar to intoxicated drivers.
  • Ignoring traffic signals and signs. Failing to yield the right-of-way, running a red light, or ignoring a stop sign directly violates traffic laws and demonstrates carelessness. These failures can lead to serious collisions, especially T-bone accidents at intersections.
  • Improper lane changes and turning. Drivers must signal and check their blind spots before changing lanes or making turns. Failing to signal, weaving between lanes, or executing an unsafe turn can cause collisions, particularly side-swipes or cut-offs.
