Slip and Fall Attorneys in Houston, TX

Results-Driven Representation for Slip and Fall Victims

A slip and fall can be deceptively dangerous. Landing the wrong way or striking a hard or sharp surface can cause serious brain or spinal cord injuries that lead to long-term, life-altering consequences. While some slips and falls are the simple result of losing one’s footing, others stem from dangerous conditions that should have been reasonably addressed by property owners. In these situations, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries and related losses.

At JJ Law, we have secured more than $70 million settlements and verdicts for personal injury victims and can put our over 30 years of combined experience to work for your slip and fall case. We want you to feel informed, empowered, and valued throughout your legal journey. That starts with reviewing the details of your case and explaining your rights and legal options in a free consultation. Our personal injury attorneys can walk you through what to expect and pursue every dollar you deserve, even if that means going to court. You owe our firm no legal fees unless we help you recover compensation.

When Do I Have a Slip and Fall Claim?

Property owners and possessors in Texas have a legal duty to maintain reasonably safe premises. This means they must promptly resolve or adequately warn visitors about hazardous conditions they knew or reasonably should have known about. If they negligently fail to do so, they become liable for any injuries they cause.

Examples of dangerous conditions that frequently cause slips and falls include:

  • Wet or slippery surfaces
  • Uneven flooring
  • Inadequate lighting
  • Broken handrails

For example, if a spill in a grocery store results in a slick floor, the property owner should take prompt steps to clean it up or put clear and obvious signs warning visitors about the wet surface. If someone slips and falls on the slick floor moments after the spill, the property owner may not be liable because they did not have a reasonable amount of time to address the hazard. If the spill goes unaddressed for half an hour, however, and someone eventually slips and falls because of the slick surface, the property owner is likely liable because they reasonably should have known about the danger.

Put simply, you may have a claim if you slipped, fell, and suffered injuries on someone else’s property and can demonstrate that the property owner knew or should have known about the danger that caused you to fall. A case becomes more complicated if you were trespassing at the time of the fall or were arguably behaving unsafely or inappropriately. For example, wearing improper footwear for the environment or running in the moments before a slip and fall can weaken a claim.

If you’re not sure whether you have a case, reach out to our team at JJ Law. We can listen to your story and review your legal options at no cost to you.

How Long Do I Have to File a Slip and Fall Claim in Texas?

In Texas, you typically have two years from the date you slipped and fell to file a personal injury lawsuit. This may seem like plenty of time, but important evidence like security footage can be taped over extremely quickly, so it is in your best interest to seek legal advice as soon as possible. If you miss the deadline, you will almost certainly be unable to proceed with your case or recover any damages, no matter the strength of your claim.
