What Counts as a Personal Injury Claim in Edmond?
A personal injury claim may arise when another person, business, or entity fails to use reasonable care and causes someone to be injured. In Edmond, we handle claims involving:
- Car accidents
- Truck accidents
- Motorcycle accidents
- Rideshare accidents involving Uber and Lyft
- Dog bites
- Slip and fall accidents
- Catastrophic injuries, including brain and spinal cord injuries
- Wrongful death
Edmond’s growth has brought heavier traffic along I-35, the John Kilpatrick Turnpike, and the Broadway Extension, along with the pedestrian and student activity surrounding the University of Central Oklahoma campus near downtown Edmond.
Injury claims in the area may involve individual drivers, commercial companies, property owners, employers, contractors, insurers, or multiple responsible parties. We investigate the full circumstances to determine who may be liable and which insurance policies may apply.
How Fault and Deadlines Work in Oklahoma
A personal injury claim generally requires proof that another party’s conduct caused the injury. The responsible party may still argue that the injured person contributed to the accident.
Under Oklahoma’s modified comparative negligence rule, you can recover compensation when your share of fault is 50% or less, although your recovery is reduced by that percentage. A claimant found 51% or more at fault is barred from recovery.
Oklahoma generally gives you two years from the date of an injury to file a lawsuit. Missing the applicable deadline can prevent you from recovering, regardless of the underlying merits of the claim.
Claims against government entities follow different procedures and may carry substantially shorter notice deadlines.

What Could Your Personal Injury Claim Be Worth?
Oklahoma personal injury claims may include several forms of compensation.
Economic damages cover measurable financial losses, including:
- Current and future medical expenses
- Lost wages
- Reduced earning capacity
- Property damage
- Rehabilitation and other out-of-pocket costs
Noneconomic damages address losses that do not come with a bill or wage statement, including:
- Pain and suffering
- Emotional distress
- Scarring and disfigurement
- Permanent physical limitations
- Loss of enjoyment of life
For injuries occurring on or after September 1, 2025, Oklahoma generally limits noneconomic damages to $500,000.
The limit does not apply when the claimant suffers a permanent and severe physical injury or when the required findings are made concerning reckless disregard, gross negligence, fraud, or intentional or malicious conduct. A separate $1 million limit applies to certain permanent mental injuries that severely impair employment or the ability to maintain a reasonable standard of living.
Economic damages are not capped under this statute. Punitive damages may also be available in limited cases involving qualifying misconduct.

After being involved in a car accident J. Jackson Law Office was very helpful. I was able to receive great care due to their referrals. In the end I was happy with the final outcome. Ms. Alma was able to pick up right where Mr. Diego left off and complete the process. Job well done. I will refer their services and utilize them again in the future if necessary. Thanks again!!- Ramika
